"Build your own robot arm," boasted Practical Electronics magazine

Part one of the construction appeared in December 1982 and part two in January 1983. The articles were written by Richard Becker - the arm's designer - and as was usually the case with his articles, were really a thinly disguised way of selling Powertran's range of robot arm kits.

Of course, the magazine gained too by publishing what appeared to be an unusual, cutting edge project. But as with the Genesis and later Mentor/Neptune construction series, there were just too many proprietary parts to make building one a practical proposition without purchasing a Powertran kit.

Still, we should be grateful today for Richard Becker's marketing ploys, as otherwise we wouldn't have such useful insights into his robots' design and construction details.
